Running the Race of Life

The Chicago Marathon was held recently and a record 33,687 runners finished the race. Only the elite runners ever had a chance to win; however, the allure of preparing for and completing a 26.2 mile race spurred the other 33,000 runners to new heights. Many runners followed 16 week training plans and received advice from the multitude of running books and magazines available.  Even so, it took one million plus spectators and thousands of volunteers to encourage these athletes on the course and provide them with the motivation to finish the race. In essence, we, as Christians, are in the greatest marathon event of all. It takes great endurance to run and finish the race of life. Fortunately we have God’s Word to provide all of the instruction and encouragement we need every day as we face life’s battles. “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Jesus Christ, is calling us.”Philippians 3:14
