Family Movie in the Park (ing Lot)

Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and we had rain last Friday night in Huntley, so we moved our showing of Horton Hears a Who? to the indoors.  Using the LCD projectors and Proclaim’s sound system, we experienced a theater style presentation inside the church.  The Youth Group provided popcorn, lemonade, and fruit punch and in all there were about 25 people in attendance.  The turn out was not quite what we had hoped for, but considering the weather, we were grateful to those who attended.

This coming Sunday, we will be back at Trinity Lutheran Church of Huntley, IL for an encore showing of Fireproof.  Due to popular demand, those who could not make the initial showing this past April requested another chance to see the movie.  The Seniors will be providing refreshments and I’m expecting a good turn out.  If you happen to be in the Huntley area on Sunday, October 7th stop on in.  Showtime is at 7:00 p.m.

Old Timers vs. The Young Timers

This past Sunday, the Youth group at Trinity Lutheran Church of Huntley, Illinois challenged the congregation to a game of 16 inch soft ball.  Dubbed the Old Timers vs. the Young Timers or the Slowskis vs. the Youngskis, there was a lot of hype leading up to the event.  The Youth had 3 practices and promised a competitive game while also raising the stakes by putting dinner on the line.  The losers would be required to make dinner for the winners.

The weather cooperated and the rain held off.  Both teams were well represented with 25 players on the Old Timers and about 20 on the Young Timers.  I believe the final score was Old Timers 18 and the Young Timers 2, but I think everyone had a blast and the highlight for me was watching Pastor Kittel sprint home just ahead of a throw and a play at the plate and you can check that picture out below.

Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!

Trinity Lutheran Church in Huntley, IL will be showing their annual Movie in the Park (ing Lot) on September 25th at 7:00 p.m.  This year’s presentation will feature Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!  Kevin will be setting up the DLP projector outside in the church parking lot and showing the movie on the back of the church building.  Please pray for good weather.  In the event that it’s too cold and/or rainy, the movie will be shown in the church sanctuary.

Trinity is using this event as an outreach to the community to draw more young families to the church.  As part of the advertising campaign, many volunteers handed out 1500 fliers over the last two weekends to promote the event and Trinity in general.  We’re praying that God opens our neighbors hearts to this unique event.

The Hut

When your hut’s on fire  ……..

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, “God! How could you do this to me?” Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! “How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers. “We saw your smoke signal,” they replied.

The Moral of This Story:

It’s easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn’t lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.

“The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you”

New Category – Inspirational Stories

There are a lot of email “forwards” that I receive in a day.  Some of them try to be alarmist, while others are just plain silly, but on occasion I receive something noteworthy and/or inspirational.  Therefore I’ve decided to start a new category on this blog to collect those stories that hit a special chord with me.  I hope that you enjoy them.

Choir Practice

Kevin is back at choir practice again at Trinity Lutheran Church in Huntley.  The choir is meeting on Tuesday nights from 7 pm to 8 pm and there are about 8 new songs that the choir will be performing through the Christmas season.  It’s always exciting to learn new material and to find a catchy hymn that you can’t get out of your head.  If you live in the Huntley area and are interested in singing with us, just check out the church website for details.
